Located in the department of Yvelines, just 40 km from Paris, the Thoiry Zoo is situated within the grounds of the Château de Thoiry, covering an impressive 150 hectares. Home to around 800 animals, these creatures roam freely across a sprawling area of 8 km. The estate also includes a 126-hectare botanical garden, distinguished as a "Remarkable Garden". A visit to the Thoiry Zoo offers a moment of relaxation in the countryside for the whole family, allowing you to discover the animals of the African savannah without leaving France. Exciting encounters await, including Komodo dragons and Arctic wolves.

Park Animals

Thoiry Safari Zoo houses approximately 800 animals from 110 different species. From Madagascar's lemurs to African cheetahs, to Australian birds, all animals enjoy a state of freedom or semi-freedom. The African Reserve introduces you to savannah animals such as rhinos, elephants, antelopes, hippos, giraffes, zebras, and more. You can also admire big cats like lions and cheetahs from a large glass tunnel. In the North American reserve, you will encounter bison, bears, and plains populated with rare animals. The Australian aviary offers a glimpse of the unique birds from the Southern hemisphere. Both children and adults can enjoy engaging, guided, and informative tours. These visits are often paired with an educational workshop. You can also meet the zookeepers and witness animal feeding times.

Park Plants

The park is a vast collection of several landscaped areas, some of which allow children to play outdoors, enjoy park features like the mysterious island, and visit the mini farm's domestic animals. This expansive garden is notably populated with 5,600 yew trees and adorned with 2,300 paths and 9 bridges. Throughout your walk, you'll discover a rose garden, a fragrant garden, a peony gallery, a flowering meadow, and a path lined with hydrangeas and viburnums. Additionally, the garden of the Château de Thoiry is designed to create a perfect optical illusion, as evidenced by the garden shaped like a sundial.
