Verdun is a city in the northeast of France. It was chosen on February 21, 1916, by the Germans as a battlefield, considered perfect in their eyes to implement their plan to win the war. This Battle of Verdun led to heavy losses for both the French and Germans. In memory of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for their country, a substantial museum was built in the city in 1967, named the Verdun Memorial. The soldiers who survived transformed this place into a testament to their comrades who perished there. This European museum is one of the most significant dedicated to the Great War. It is currently managed by the NCRV: National Committee of Remembrance Verdun. The museum, opened since September 17, 1967, is a building of 1950 m² with an exhibition area of 1000 m², consisting of two large galleries and 21 spaces filled with a collection of vehicles, weapons, uniforms, helmets, artillery, military trucks, and more, gathered over time. Photographs, both of the French and Germans during the battle, occupy a significant space in the memorial. All of these elements work together to help visitors relive the moments of remembrance and emotion from the Battle of Verdun. In 2006, improvements were made, including enhanced interior lighting, more explanatory panels, and more legible photographs, changes that have attracted even more tourist interest. This museum operates thanks to the revenue from admissions and its bookstore, which is open every day. The Verdun Memorial is a site of symbolic value, with numerous memories commemorating the First World War in France
